A Translational Biomarker Research Department at Takeda is responsible for supporting all biomarker activities related to clinical development programs in oncology, GI and CNS. We work closely with Discovery researchers to deliver biomarker assays to support clinical trials. The department utilizes an externally facing model where scientists use their expertise in various state of the art technology platforms to develop and validate clinical biomarker assays. To expand our biomarker research capabilities we are looking for a well-rounded researcher with extensive lab experience to work with contract research organizations and specialty vendors to outsource, develop, and validate various genomic and protein biomarker assays. This person will work with both internal groups and external laboratories, to ensure timely development, validation and implementation of biomarker assays into clinical trials. Expertise across various technology platforms including genomics, epigenetics, and proteins is required.


  • Work with Translational Lead Scientist, Translational and Biomarker Research Logistics group, Clinical Operations and Clinical Outsourcing to ensure biomarker assay needs for clinical development strategy are delivered within the required study timelines. Provides strategic, technical and scientific leadership for execution of these assays for assigned program(s).
  • Collaborate with internal groups to ensure timely execution of assay development and outsourcing.
  • Lead the transfer of biomarker assays from Discovery groups to contract laboratories from development, through to validation according to the fit-for-purpose principle.
  • Present biomarker data at project team meetings
  • Responsibilities include 10% lab work and 90% outsourcing and clinical trial support activities.


  • B.S./M.S. with 5+ years experience in relevant scientific area, e.g., Oncology, Immunology, Neurobiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology.
  • More than 5 years of relevant experience in translational research and assay development and validation a must.
  • Technical experience with different biomarker testing platforms is required including: NGS, epigenetics, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and ligand binding assays.
  • Experience with outsourcing and working with external collaborators and laboratories is required.
  • Project management experience is required.
  • Ability to QC data from biomarker assays is a required.
  • Knowledge on how to perform assay validations is required.
  • Should serve as a highly credible technical expert to outside functional areas.
  • Good communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
